Department of International Relations

The specialty "International Relations" was opened at the Kyiv Slavic University in 1994. Today the department carries out training of specialists for the first (bachelor) and second (master's) level, in the field of International relations, public communications and regional studios.

The Department of International Relations is headed by Doctor of Sciences, a professor known in Ukraine and abroad by Polonist Igor Ivanovich Ilyushin. The qualitative composition of the department is made up of well-known professors and PhDs in the field.

The teaching staff of the Department of International Relations constantly cooperates with the embassies of Bulgaria, Macedonia, Poland, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, as well as with the scientific and cultural institutions, thanks to this cooperation students of the department have the opportunity to use the latest educational achievements of these countries.

Students of the department study foreign languages ​​(Romano-Germanic and Slavic, or Modern Greek), in addition, they have the opportunity to study one of the Romano-Germanic languages ​​in an optional way.

The main bases of practice, for the students of the department are:

  • Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine;
  • diplomatic representations of foreign countries in Ukraine;
  • NATO and UN representation in Ukraine;
  • Central Scientific Library of Ukraine. VI Vernadsky;
  • Committees of the Verkhovna Rada on International Relations and European Integration;
  • UNIAN news agency;
  • JF Kennan Foundation;
  • scientific institutions of the historical and political science of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.

The department also provides training and scientific guidance for graduate students. Masters, post-graduate students and foreign interns of the specialty "International Relations" take an active part in the scientific work of the department.

The teaching staff of the Department of International Relations is constantly working on improving the technology of teaching and learning disciplines. Over the past 3 years, the professors of the department have passed advanced training courses at the Jagiellonian University (Krakow, Poland), on the basis of the Institute of International Relations of the Kyiv National Taras Shevchenko University, and also at the Institute of Political and Ethnic Studies named after I.F. Kuras National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.

The department pays special attention to the involvement of young scientists. The best graduates are recommended to enter the graduate school of the Kyiv Slavic University, as well as to a number of academic institutes, in particular, to the Institute of World Economy and International Relations of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, etc.

A graduate of the Department of International Relations can work in positions of: consultant, referent, adviser on international relations and foreign policy:

  • in structural subdivisions of the service of the President of Ukraine;
  • at the Secretariat of the Presidium of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine;
  • in the structural subdivisions of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine;
  • at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine;
  • in the Ministry of Foreign Economic Relations of Ukraine;
  • in other republican departments where there are structural units of foreign affairs;
  • in embassies, consulates, trade missions and other representative organizations of Ukraine;
  • in foreign countries and international organizations, as well as in representations of other states and international organizations in Ukraine;
  • in joint Ukrainian-foreign states, public and private joint-stock companies and in public organizations that have close contacts with foreign countries;
  • in research institutes and laboratories.

Graduates of the department receive qualification - international political scientist, translator.
